our history

Since its establishment in 2005, the non-profit organization RENAF has established itself as a major actor in promoting human rights, health, education, WASH, nutrition, social cohesion, and the protection of vulnerable populations in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

2005-2010

After its establishment in 2005, RENAF consolidated its programs in Kinshasa, developing initiatives to raise awareness of human rights, provide psychosocial support, and promote social inclusion for vulnerable people.

RENAF expanded its interventions to South Kivu and North Kivu (Goma), with targeted projects focusing on psychosocial support, the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), support for children in difficult situations, and the strengthening of access to education and safe drinking water, in partnership with local and international NGOs.

RENAF strengthened its action in the management of humanitarian emergencies, community health, and nutrition, particularly in support of populations displaced by conflict. We also took part in initiatives focused on restorative justice and social cohesion aimed at reconciling affected communities.

Despite the worsening of the crisis in South Kivu, RENAF consolidated its integrated programs under the Pokea Ujuzi na Upone project, reaching more than 175,000 beneficiaries and collaborating with international partners such as Impunity Watch and OSF/OSISA, as well as local partners, while placing strong emphasis on monitoring and evaluation, fund traceability, and measurable impact in the areas of mental health, education, WASH, and the protection of vulnerable populations.

Today, due to a lack of resources and in light of the situation in South Kivu, RENAF is focusing its mission on the most urgent actions: health services and therapeutic centers.
